JOB DESCRIPTION

The Associate Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and growing a team within Smarter Good’s finance and accounting service line and building strong, impactful relationships with current and prospective client partners. They are comfortable acting as a business and thought partner for our clients and as a decision-maker for an accounting and bookkeeping team of three to five professionals. The Associate Accounting Manager has prior experience that will enable their team to grow quickly to become well-versed in client services. They will interface with CEOs, CFOs, and senior leaders across a diversity of clients and countries, including those based in the U.S. They are ambitious about helping Smarter Good and their team meet its growth and impact goals and are eager to stretch themselves to learn and develop their own leadership skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the standard for excellence for their team in service delivery
  • Ensure close coordination with client service and operations teams to enable their team meets impact and financial targets
  • Join in conversations that are in progress with prospective clients, bringing a consultative approach to help clients see how our services can help them solve problems and grow strength
  • Supervise and ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of client work done by their team across the following financial operations:
  • Processing of accounts receivable/payable, bank reconciliation, monthly closing and reporting; and
  • Preparation of cash disbursements, cash receipts, sales, and journal books of accounts
  • Supervise, coach, and develop staff to improve client relationships and communications, and to deepen and grow partnerships
  • Provide direct advisory and thought partnership to clients, as needed

JOB QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or any related course; CPA is a plus
  • Interest in working for a double bottom line company that produces social impact
  • At least six (6) years or more experience in Accounting and Finance, with at least three (3) years of experience managing bookkeeping and accounting staff and teams
  • Ability to juggle various clients and projects at various stages
  • Possesses a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and end-to-end finance and accounting business processes and the ability to lead cross-functionally and collaboratively to achieve the right outcomes; experience in working with nonprofits (US 501c3 entities) and foundations is highly desirable, but not required
  • Client service experience with U.S. and global companies and organizations
  • The highest degree of integrity and strong work ethic
  • Strong, clear, and candid communication and presentation skills; experience in consultative conversations to help prospective clients match their needs to our services, as well as the skill in speaking with non-finance professionals, and supporting them to interpret and present financial information
  • A sense of urgency and a focus on producing high-quality deliverables and growing the business line and its impact
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
